Putting it all together

Hi guys this is the last in the series of senses, thanks to my mother for this ideas. If you have any ideas for blog posts drop me a comment and I will see if I can squeeze it in. Today I want to look at the challenge of putting all the senses together, to create a complete scene. First thing we need to establish is that not all people experience all senses at once, people with Autism do but they are gifted like that. Nearly everyone experiences there senses in distinctly and normally tune out some senses when going about their daily lives. It takes extreme training to soak in all the senses at once and have your brain register them all at once. So its ok to write in the same manner. Show don’t tell basically means that the readers want to experience the emotions and events of the book without being told want is going on. ‘Sandy was angry at Bob.’ This example is a great sentence in that it has all the components that make a sentence however when dealing with a story it is pretty lack lustre, because we are simply just told that Sandy is angry at Bob instead of showing us that Sandy was angry at Bob. Castle rushes you along from one emotion to another as you ride the roller coaster that are Subject A and Subject B’s lives. Ride along with them […]

Vantage Point

Leanne listened for the sound of the boys following her and heard nothing. she lifted the roasted rabbit to her lips and took a large bite out of the soft tender flesh. She looked down the path that she had just come from and watched spear at the ready, chewing on and eating the rabbit in her left hand. The trees around her waved as a gentle breeze caught them and the moving air caught Leanne’s skin and cooled her after her panicked run down the path. She looked down at herself and blushed, My robe is back at the tree. I can’t go back and get it. I need to know the lay of the land. I need a plan of action. Leanne looked up at the path that headed up the sloop away from the river. she tossed the remains of the roasted rabbit […]
