World Building Part 3

Hi guys. Lets take a quick look at terrain. Terrain, is the features that are present in your story. Most stories don’t happen on the same flat terrain all the time. Some other terrain types to consider include; forest, city, mountains, underwater, in the sky and in space. Each terrain type will have its own challenge to consider when writing. Mixing up the terrain can radically add new depth to your story. Forest: In a forest the terrain is generally covered in trees. Which can make visibility less and people can ambush others. Challenges include visibility and light – light might stream through the branches of the trees and darkness might be more present. World Building 2

Hi guys, lets continue looking at world building. If your story has a large group of people living and working in an small area, commonly referred to as a community. A form of governance will need to be considered, especially if the main characters are going to live and work in that setting. For most stories the assumption that there is an authority is enough for the story to progress. However there might be a case when your character either is, becomes, or contends with the authority established in your book. World Building 1

Let’s start at the beginning, with world building. Now, for those that just read, it might get a little tedious but for those that love to write, come along on a journey. Remember, you can tell any story you want in any setting you want. Choosing a place where you set your story is the foundation of your story. A setting in space will have different needs to consider when writing than on a planet. […]

Challenge Accepted.

The other day my wife challenged me to a feat that will take quite a bit out of me. It wasn’t difficult or gross. It was simple a challenge of discipline. Last week I spoke about the need to be rigid in our timing of certain projects so that when the new year rolls around again we can have that great sense of looking back over our year and say to yourself ‘I did it, it was tough but I accomplished great things for me this year.’ My wife raised the stakes and made me consider really how much I could accomplish over the year if I gave up some of my free time. With great sacrifice comes great opportunity. I will keep you posted on the progress of how things are going with my challenge in later blogs. For each accomplishment there […]
